Chapter 17

They settled into an idyllic existence. Of course, they had the trials and tribulations that parents go through during the first couple of years, but now, with Christopher at nursery, Mandy had been hitting the gym with Harrison every day and was in the best shape of her life.

Christopher had a babysitter, and when Harrison and Mandy were in the car on their way to a club. Harrison said, ‘I think Chris should go to boarding school.’

‘Boarding school? Are you serious?’

‘Yes. It’s good for them. They mix with other kids, and as it’s a fee-paying school, all of the other kids will be from well-connected families. You’ll be free all day too.’

‘I don’t want to be free all day. I like being his mum. How come you bring this up now when you know I’m bloody nervous? I don’t even know why I agreed to this.’

They were on their way to Club 69, a swingers’ club. Harrison said, ‘Trust me. You remain in complete control. No one breaks the rules. Why would they? If you just want to watch other people, that’s what we will do.’

‘This is embarrassing,’ Mandy said as they walked to the front door.

‘Relax,’ Harrison replied, and they walked arm in arm into the club.

‘Relax? How can I relax in front of all of these people?’

‘In that direction...’ He pointed outside and to the right, ‘...in a mile you will come to a garage. That way there is a house in about three miles away. There is no other reason to travel down this lane. The only people on this road are going to the club. Trust me, they feel nervous too.’

Harrison had been before a couple of times and Mandy was dubious, but trusted him enough to go and see for herself. He had promised that most people would be just like them, ordinary folks, not looking to swap, just looking to be in a room, with other people shagging.

They walked in.

‘There’s no doorman. What if there’s trouble?’ she asked.

‘It’s all about the sex ‘bout the sex, no trouble. It’s all about the sex ‘bout the sex, no trouble,’ he sang, to the tune of a current radio favourite as he took a dig in the ribs.

‘Twat,’ she said as she did it, albeit light-heartedly.

They walked through the door, down a short corridor, and they were in a large space with a dance floor and a bar, with rooms off to the left and right.

‘Look, people here are all like-minded. No one is coming here to get drunk, or dance, or chat people up. So there is no trouble. It is run by swingers for swingers, and it is a members’ only club.’

After going to the bar and getting drinks, they walked past the dance floor to the large area in dim lighting to the left. ‘People go on the dance floor as a warm-up. Lots of kissing and touching, a bit of foreplay. No dancing as such, just every now and then, they put a smoochie song on and some people go there first,’ he said.
